A Great Place to Work

Welcome to Ashford Borough Council – Port Health Authority in Kent. As a result of EU Transition an exciting opportunity arose for Ashford Borough Council.

Our Inland Border Facility ensures that the 350,000 food imports per year coming into the UK via Eurotunnel meet the UK’s requirements for food safety. We are based at the Border Control Post (BCP) at Sevington in Ashford, Kent. The BCP building is located at one of largest Inland Border Facility sites in the UK.

With our innovative and diverse Port Health Team, we are responsible for delivering Port Health Controls. This includes carrying out documentation checks and physically examining foods. The Port Health Team safeguard the consumer from imported infectious diseases and ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are in place.

Working in a busy environment,  no two days are the same,  as the site operates at the Border Control Post 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our Port Health Team have a varied working background all working together to achieve the same goal – protecting our borders.
